USDA ARS Cottonseed Research and Development Project

Ready to launch our largest project to date, Eco-Sol has developed a proprietary process that will raise the value of cottonseed crops substantially, while producing as a by-product significant quantities of virgin oil feedstock for biodiesel operations. We seek to combine production of high-quality, cotton-based, dairy feed along with biodiesel in one facility. This project will take place under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to be conducted at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Southwestern Cotton Ginning Research Lab. This project builds on last year’s preliminary study conducted at the Texas A&M Food Protein R&D Lab, and is designed to follow up and fine-tune procedures. The project also includes some proprietary work on renewable cotton-product based energy.

Eco-Sol will work directly with growers and producers and help them close the carbon cycle through providing high quality biodiesel specifically for the agricultural and non-highway use market, as well as improving an undervalued crop through production of a vastly enhanced seed meal for the dairy industry. Initial pilot plant operations will be conducted at the USDA ARS Southwestern Cotton Ginning Research Lab (SWCGRL) in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This facility will offer excellent support and resources both logistically and operationally including:

  • Complete metal fabrication shops -Machine shop; complete w/ CNC mill & lathe
  • Sensing instrumentation, dataloggers, computers, PLCs
  • Ample research space in a secure facility
  • Logistics equipment: Fork lifts and dump trucks and loaders
  • Storage space, spare parts and hardware
  • Engineers, Draftsmen, Electrician, Machinist, Sheet Metal Mechanic Welder, Maintenance Mechanics & Laborers

More importantly, Eco-Sol will benefit not only from the incredible expertise of the staff and scientists at SWCGRL, but at multiple USDA ARS Labs from across the country who will be collaborating on this project.
